The Newton County Board of Commissioners voted to relax the county's mask mandate during its Regular Meeting March 15.
Masks, which have been required in Newton County buildings throughout the COVId-19 pandemic, are optional.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) eased its guidelines on masks and face coverings earlier this year, stating people within communities with low transmission levels did not have to be required to wear masks. As of March 15, 2022 Newton County was in the low transmission level. The CDC guidelines state that people may choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.
The CDC community transmission levels are updated every Thursday and can be found here.
