Tami Wells Thomas was sworn in as part-time Magistrate Court judge for Newton County Friday, Dec. 20 at the Newton County Judicial Center.
Judge Wells Thomas was selected by Chief Magistrate Melanie Bell to fill the position opened when Judge Kim Degonia resigned earlier this year.
Judge Wells Thomas owns her own business and consumer law practice in Covington, received her bachelor’s degree in political science from Denison University and graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law. Wells Thomas is also an adjunct professor at Atlanta Technical College and Georgia State University.
Judge Wells Thomas is an active community member of Newton County and is part of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Springfield Baptist Church, on the board of directors at the YMCA and past-president and current treasurer of the NewRock Legal Society.
